On 1st June 2009 Air France flight 447 disappeared somewhere over the South Atlantic. After five lengthy, costly search campaigns, the plane was finally located and the black boxes recovered. The most cutting-edge technology and skilled experts were involved in an investigation that cost 30 million euros, not surprising given that to find the wreckage they had to comb through a section of ocean nearly 4000 meters (13,000 ft) deep, with the surface area of a small European country.
Now, for the first time, footage from the search missions has been made available. We discover the story behind this search for an aircraft lost--and found--in the middle of nowhere.
