In a realm where the sun never shines, the first oceanauts are pioneers of an historic adventure, the conquest of the continental shelf, a worldwide territory, larger than Africa. This is the first time an undersea vessel, Cousteau's diving saucer, has had an undersea base -a submarine hangar where the oceanauts live at depths of thirty five and eighty six feet down for a month, enabling them to work eighty feet down the reef five hours a day and make excursions 165 feet deep and return directly to base.
